Margaret Witzsche, Rain forest/burned forest

Rain forest/burned forest

When I began these paintings, forests were burning all across the country.  I had wanted to give the idea of conservation of the rainforest’s delicate bio systems.  Instead, the first paintings seemed to fill with smoke.   Later, images of rain fill the canvases and you begin to feel as though there will be regrowth and renewal.  Some of the paintings are almost covered in white as, despite new growth, the rain forests continue todisappear.
